*I posted this in the Reaper Compatibility section of the forum, but as a first time poster wasn't sure if that was the right forum for my question. If anyone wants to take my hand and lead me through, I'll be forever grateful. I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, I did a search but did not come up with anything specifically matching my question. I was wondering if there's anyone that could help me out and give me a quick step-by-step process of routing to the VLA II from the Pro 40? My goal (if possible) is to be able to play back my mix and say, compress the bass guitar track with the VLA, while monitoring the wet signal, so I'm able to adjust the compressor attack/release/ration etc while I monitor and mix. This is total user-error on my part, I know. When I try to do as such, I either get no signal, or I get feedback. I would love to be able to use the VLA when I'm mixing, routing tracks through it and back into the Pro 40. I'm very new to External Hardware mostly I've been using my VLA II when tracking, with just some light compression to catch some extreme peaks. I've read endless threads and watched many videos on MixControl, but I still can't seem to wrap my head around it. I have a question: I'm looking to route a track in Reaper out of my Saffire Pro 40, into my Art Pro VLA II Hardware Compressor and then back into my Pro 40 to record it. Thanks to all the great posters for all the tips and tricks! We dont use any outboard and mix at home "in the box" using other hardware (computer/interface), so we really only use 2 of the 28 outputs we have for stereo monitoring while recording.Let me start off by saying that this forum has been of great help to me whenever I've had Reaper troubleshooting I've been browsing for years but have only just signed-up. It's just a matter of experimenting till you get the lowest values without gettings clicks. In The MicControl panel: Settings -> FireWire driver latency. All settings can be done in the MixControl panel itself. Since we have the ADAT interfaces and also use the SPDIF i have access to 26 inputs at the same time and we have almost everything miked up and plugged in, so its pretty much just pressing record. I'm using Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56, also with mixcontrol 3.0. Yeah the LS56 has just 8 mic preamps (or line inputs) and one SPDIF IO besides the ADAT IO, one of the ADATs can be used as SPDIF (optical) also, so that makes a maximum of 8 analog and 4 digital IO without expansion via ADAT. Be aware of the actual physical inputs and outputs of the Pro 24.Good points there ! With inputs 3&4 taken up by my insert loop and the two pres left for mics, I need to add some ADAT inputs for the synths. To work with Focusrite Control, just install the. Control preamp features available on your connected Focusrite interface. Configure your routing and monitor mixes from Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone or iPod touch with user-friendly control software Focusrite Control. However, I would like to have my synths plugged in all the time. CONTROL YOUR FOCUSRITE INTERFACE FROM YOUR MAC, PC OR IOS DEVICE. They are counting the ADAT inputs (assumes you have an ADAT device) and SPDIF inputs (assumes you have SPDIF devices) in the count of 16 inputs. I want to use my VLA in a mix bus or drum bus or Vocal bus etc. I connected the outputs of my VLA to Line Input 1/2 of my LS56. I connected the other end of the cables into inputs 1/2 of my VLA 3. Note that the I/O claimed by Focusrite is a bit misleading. I ran two line outs out of my LS56 outputs 3/4 2. I've always lived by the idea that tha good ear will get you much farther than good gear - coupled with my tech unsavviness, I'm tempted to ditch the new stuff and go back to the basics.Įxcellent point, and it's worth emphasizing. Just wondering if the answer lies somewhere in Mixcontrol. How about sound quality? In all honesty, I'm getting the exact same (if not worse) sound out of my gear with my "upgraded" interface. I recorded some tracks into garageband without opening mixcontrol). Is that about it? It doesn't appear to me that Mixcontrol is required to use the hardware (i.e. From my understanding, the Mixcontrol that comes with it is primarily used to prevent latency problems. Basically, i'm a musician with a good enough ear to make my cheapo equipment sound good enough for me.īut, I recently decided to upgrade a bit and grabbed a Focusrite Saffire 14 (upgraded from a 9 year old Tascam us-122 with only one working channel). So i'm not exactly a recording newbie (9 years or so doing cheapo home-based stuff), but i'm really software un-savvy.
